Brazil And Mexico In Drunken Deathmatch: Caipirinhas Surpassing Margaritas In Popularity
2 June 2009, 8:42 PM. By Alejandro Paz
Y’all know what a caipirinha is…right?
As Jordan McKay, blogger and bartender at Cantina in SF describes, “A simple mixture of cachaça, sugar and lime, the caipirinha, in many ways, is a Brazilian margarita, but with a twist. Instead of squeezing limes into the mix, quarters of whole lime are muddled with coarse sugar to extract not just the juice, but a little of the sharp oils from the skins, making a complex, yet simple, drink.”
Mmmm…sharp oils, muddled limes, cachaçachaçachaçachaça.
Yeah so, Viva Mexico, but tequila makes a voracious devil person come to life inside and out, whereas cachaça just brings the honest to goodness awesomeness to your face. And pants.
Which do you choose on an average Saturday night in Drunkenland?
