First Face And Hand Transplant Patient Has Died
15 June 2009, 2:49 PM. By Nacomprende
The first patient to have a simultaneous transplant has passed. The thirty year old Frenchman died from a heart attack in the ‘Henri Mondor de Creteil’ hospital located in the outskirts of Paris. He underwent surgery last April and, while completed successfully, he developed inflammation on his facial tissue. It was during a second operation to correct his inflammation that he went into cardiac arrest.
It was noted that his death wasn’t due to a rejection of the transplants. The medical team is awaiting the autopsy results to fully determine what went wrong.
