Breaking: James W. Von Brunn Shoots Up Holocaust Museum In Washington, D.C., Kills Security Guard

UPDATE: 4:45PM ET:

The security guard shot when James W. Von Brunn opened fire in the U.S. Holocaust Museum this afternoon at approximately 1PM ET, has died.

UPDATE 2:49PM ET:

Washington D.C. mayor Adrian Fenty announced to the press that the security guard shot at the museum is in the hospital in “grave condition.” His identity has not been released. The gunman, who police believe acted alone, is also in the hospital in critical condition.

UPDATE: 2:35PM ET:

The two people shot were the gunman and a security guard. The alleged gunman was just shown on CNN being carried on a gurney into George Washington Hospital. He is believed to be James Winnicker Von Brunn, 88, of eastern Maryland, (pictured.) He has a record of ties to hate groups and appears to be a white male with a shaved head. Surprising? No. His website Holy Western Empire is, well, disturbing and difficult to access at the time of this writing.

Gunfire at the entrance of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum wounded at least two people, one of them security, Wednesday, emergency officers said.

Police say a lone gunman opened fire with a rifle near the security desk at the entrance to the museum. There were about five gunshots from the original shooter and then return fire from security officers. The museum, located at 100 Raoul Wallenberg Place, SW, has been evacuated.

Police have surrounded the building. Developing.
