Laura Ling, sister of American journalist Lisa Ling, was arrested by the North Korean government along with fellow journalist Euna Lee while working on the N. Korean-Chinese border. It’s not clear whether the ladies attempted to cross into North Korea, but both were sentenced to 12 years in a labor camp for “hostilities against the Korean nation and illegal entry.” The two were arrested in March while working for Al Gore’s CurrentTV. It will be interesting to see if their media connections in the states can get them out any sooner. And whether this is just a symbolic move on the part of North Korea or if they really suspect the two of spying for the United States.
