The Consensus Is That Honduras Has Fucked Up With Their Coup And Made Hugo Chavez A Winner

According to the New York Times, the military coup Honduras pulled on its president this weekend has only served to make Hugo Chavez, of all people, a winner. Everyone around the world is defending Honduras’ now former president Manuel Zelaya, which, according to Op-Ed Contributor Álvaro Vargas Llosa, is exactly how Zelaya planned it:

In the weeks leading up to Honduras’s coup, President Manuel Zelaya, an ally of Hugo Chávez of Venezuela, knew what he was doing. In pushing the limits of democracy by trying to force a constitutional change that would permit his re-election, he set a trap for the military. The military fell for it, turning an unpopular president who was nearing the end of his term into an international cause célèbre.

  1. Let’s wait until he shows up at the airport in Tegucigalpa….

  2. So far Chavez has turned out to be the big loser in the whole deal He supported Zelaya and Zelaya is living in the Brazilian embassy like a lost puppy dog. He can’t accuse Obama and the US because they’ve been on the side of the OAS which is Chavez’s baby. The price of oil is way down, and Venezuela’s production is at 10 year lows due to mismanagement. Chavez is WAY overextended and over promised and has the highest inflation rate in the hemisphere………sounds like a loser to me, shall I continue?
