Walter Cronkite Very Ill

If there is one image that encapsulates, for us, the early 70’s of our childhood, it’s that of CBS anchor Walter Cronkite on the evening news. He was the wise, grandfatherly voice of reason in the midst of a country ripped apart by the Vietnam War and the struggle for civil rights. Every American news journalist who came after will tell you, they just don’t make them like Walt anymore.

Today, rumor has it that the 92 year-old is very ill and has taken a turn for the worse. “Walter could be with us for years,” says Verne Gay of Newsday, “but the latest reports are not good. He is in very very bad shape.”
