Aroldis Chapman Defects From Cuban Baseball Team, Will Arive In Miami On Tiny Raft Shortly

What’s great about this story is that Aroldis Chapman, considered pretty much the greatest southpaw pitching prospect in the world, defected from the Cuban national team by just straight up walking out of his hotel room. That’s it. Sure, the Cubans have his passport, but he seems clever enough to figure out a way to get to the States and sign a multi-million dollar deal (he snuck past the concierge, after all). Word is he lands in Miami on Monday, and from there it’s nothing but swimming pools, movie stars, and OK some time in a AAA club to develop anything other than a fastball.
