A shocking report in the Chinese Daily cites unnamed government sources admitting that up to 65% of the donated organs in the country are actually farmed from executed prisoners. The country blames the policy on a cultural bias against organ removal, leaving the estimated 1.5 million Chinese citizens needing transplants with only around 10,000 possible donors. The resultant organ black market has prompted the Chinese government to pass new legislation aimed at traffickers, along with a push towards a voluntary donation program. China executes more people than any other country in the world (even Texas!), last year putting over 1700 prisoners to death.
